About This Journey

This experience brings guests closer to Sichuan opera beyond the audience seat. Guests will enter a local theatre, teahouse stage, or opera space in Chengdu to learn how Sichuan opera combines music, gesture, costume, face painting, character roles, and stage skills. The highlight is the famous face-changing performance, but the experience also opens the backstage world behind it. Before or after the show, guests will have the chance to visit the backstage area, observe costumes and props, understand the basic role types of Sichuan opera, and experience simple opera-style costume or make-up styling. It is designed as a lively, visual, and accessible introduction to Sichuan’s performing arts.
